The 6th Shanghai Hamburg Forum on „China in Europe, past and present” has successfully concluded on Saturday, 21 October 2017.

The Shanghai Hamburg Forum is co-organized by the Chinese Department of the University of Hamburg and the International Center for Studies of Chinese Civilization of Fudan University (Shanghai) and strives to promote intellectual exchange of German and Chinese scholars of the humanities.

On Friday, 20 October 2017, a series of lectures (program overview), attended by students, teachers, and members of the Hamburger Sinologische Gesellschaft e.V.,  shed light on different aspects of cultural, personal, and academic exchange between Europe and China. The students of the graduate program “China in Europe, Europe in China” presented their PhD projects in a poster exhibition. The day was concluded by an open discussion on future perspectives of the study of Sino-European relations and a dinner attended by the University of Hamburg’s vice president Prof. Dr. Susanne Rupp, who also welcomed the guests from Shanghai in the opening ceremony. The Chinese delegation was led by Prof. Jin Guangyao, one of the founders of the Shanghai Hamburg Forum.

On Saturday, the guests from China and Europe visited the Hamburg Museum and the Elbphilharmonie and, in the afternoon, had a get-together with the graduate students.
