摘要/Abstract
In entrepreneurship, social capital plays a crucial role, particularly in emerging markets.
In the 1990's Fukuyama identified trust as paramount for the economic success of Germany, the U.S. and Japan, since people in these countries were able to put trust in the modern corporation and not in the kingroup. Fukuyama then divided Asian societies into two groups; on the one hand the unsuccessful developerswho could not move beyond the kin group - such as China, and on the other hand, successful developers whowere able to put trust in the corporation - such as Japan.
However, the economic developments have shown a reversal of fortunes, as China has soared and Japan hasstagnated, despite a crisis of trust in Chinese business - leading to the government implementing severalmeasures in recent years to raise the honest mentality and credit levels. Fukuyama's failed hypothesis is areminder of the complexity of the Chinese development.
This presentation explores the dynamics of networking and building social capital for entrepreneurs in China today.
