Analysis of Peruvian Newspaper Portrayal of Chinese FDI from 2001 to 2020: An Exploration of Factors Influencing International Economic News Reporting


秘鲁是拉丁美洲环太平洋的重要国家,是中国在拉美第二大投资目的地,是第一个既同中国建有全面战略伙伴关系,又签有双边一揽子自贸协定的拉美国家。在秘鲁的文化场域如何看待中国和与中国的经贸联系?本研究从历史性维度和区域国别视域出发,对秘鲁四大西班牙语主流媒介《La República》《El Comercio》《Gestión Online》和《Semana Económica》从2001年至2020年关于中国FDI的报道文本进行内容分析,试图探讨媒介话语与经济现实之间的关系。研究结果显示,从历史性维度来看过去二十年中国对秘鲁的FDI可以划分为Exploration、Expansion、Slowdown、Renewed Engagement四个阶段,而媒介关注度则随着阶段不同发生变化,两大常常用来理解中国FDI的框架是冲突与经济后果。从国别视域来看,秘鲁国内媒介的左右翼倾向影响了其话语,与预期假设和针对其他拉美国家的国际已有研究不同,本研究发现秘鲁左翼媒介更倾向于用冲突框架来解读中国FDI。这一研究为理解拉丁美洲眼中的中国提供了新的视角。本研究由复旦大学王珑兴、北京师范大学朱毅诚、复旦发展研究院访问学者(秘鲁圣马尔科斯大学)Juan Diego Zamudio、复旦大学黄睿彤、毕泽佳、舒钥、陈灏奕共同完成。该论文已在国际传播学SSCI期刊《International Journal of Communication》上发表。

Abstract


In recent years, the economic exchanges between China and Latin American countries have been further deepened, and news about Chinese FDI in the region responds to economic reality and the different stages of changing international relations and media characteristics. The current study includes a content analysis by human coders of 308 news articles about Chinese FDI in three types of Peruvian news outlets from 2001 to 2020, namely left-leaning newspaper (La República), right-leaning newspaper (El Comercio), and specialized economic news outlets (Gestión Online and Semana Económica). In this context, it explores how international economic news volume is related to real-world economic indexes and how news interpretations about Chinese FDIs, as manifested by news frames, are influenced by contextual and political factors.
