Juan Pablo Ferrero is a Senior Lecturer in Latin American Studies at the University of Bath. His primary area of expertise focuses on the political sociology of South America, with an emphasis on the socio-political dynamics of post-transition Argentina and Brazil. His broader research agenda explores subnational political regimes, collective action, and the discursive forms of political order across the region.
In addition to his research and teaching, Dr Ferrero plays a key leadership role in academic publishing as the Editor-in-Chief of the Bulletin of Latin American Research (BLAR) and the Editor-in-Chief for the original research section of Sociology Compass. Through his published work, editorial oversight, and teaching, he actively contributes to advancing contemporary debates on Latin American democracy, governance, and state-society relations.
During his stay at FDDI, he will conduct research on the political sociology of South America, Latin American democracy and governance, state-society relations, and regional political order, with particular attention to the interactions among political transition, social mobilization, and governance structures in Latin America.
Juan Pablo Ferrero will be a visiting scholar at Global South Field Research Laboratory, Fudan University (GSFRL-FDU) and Fudan Development Institute from September 6, 2026 to September 23, 2026.
