Fudan Development Institute Seed Fund · FLAUC Fellow Program (Autumn Semester Year 2025)

Overview

The Fudan Development Institute (FDDI) welcomes qualified scholars in Latin American studies to apply for its “Seed fund - FLAUC Fellow Program. This program offers scholars the opportunity to engage with Fudan faculty and foster cross-disciplinary academic collaborations.

 

Eligibility

1. Age and Nationality: Applicants are required to be 60 years of age or younger and hold nationality outside Chinese mainland; Each applicant may also recommend an outstanding PhD candidate in their field to join the visit. However, PhD candidates are not eligible to apply independently.

2. Academic Position: Applicants are required to hold a faculty position at a recognized university or be a regular member at an established research institute outside Chinese mainland.

3. Research Focus: Visiting scholars’ research fields should align with themes related to the “driving forces for national development”, including but not limited to national development challenges, digital transformation, technological innovation, urban studies, youth studies, and carbon peaking and neutrality;

4. Fudan Collaborator: Applicants are required to identify a joint research collaborator who holds a full faculty position at Fudan University and ensure that this collaborator is available for regular discussions and can host seminars during the applicant’s visit.

5. Availability: Applicants are required to commit to full-time research at FDDI for 30-90 days. PhD candidates are required to be available for 90 days.

6. Working Language: English.

Application Materials

Applicants are required to send the following documents (in English), titled “FLAUC Fellow Program + Applicant’s Name”, to fdifudan@fudan.edu.cn:

1. Application form (see attachment):

2. Curriculum Vitae (including academic background, professional experience, and a list of previous research, etc.).

3. High-resolution Photograph with a white background (JPEG or PNG format).

4. Research proposal (minimum of 2 pages in English).

5. Curriculum Vitae of the joint research collaborator at Fudan University.

6. PhD Candidate Materials: In the case of including a PhD candidate in the application, please also submit the application form, CV and high-resolution photograph with a white background of the PhD candidate.

 

Responsibilities

Visiting Scholars are required to submit the following research outputs during their visit, and use the title “Visiting Scholar, Fudan Development Institute, Fudan University” in all related activities.

1. Research outputs:

1) Working Paper: Visiting scholars (including both applicants and PhD candidates) are required to collaborate with their Fudan collaborator on a working paper and submit it during their visit. The paper is expected to be published within two years.

2) Seminar: Visiting scholars are required to present at least one seminar on their research topic during their visit and actively participate in other seminars organized by FDDI.

3) Review Essay: Visiting scholars are required to contribute a review essay to FDDI’s internal publication on national development.

2. Office Attendance: Visiting scholars are required to work at the FDDI office for a minimum of two days per week and meet with other scholars, staff, or students who have made an appointment.

3. External Activities: Visiting scholars are required to inform FDDI in advance when attending activities organized by other institutions during the visiting period and use the required title.

4. Submission Guidelines: All reports, articles, essays submitted by the visiting scholar to FDDI may be selected and recommended to FDDI’s publishing partners. Please ensure that submissions do not create any copyright conflicts.

 

Privileges

1. Financial Support: FDDI will provide a reasonable stipend for travel and living expenses during the visit.

2. Office Space: Visiting scholars will be provided with a free, well-equipped office space at FDDI in a productive and supportive environment.

3. Academic Engagement: Visiting scholars are welcome to attend lectures and all public academic events at Fudan University.

4. Resource Access: Visiting scholars will have access to Fudan University’s libraries and electronic resources throughout their visit.

5. Publication Opportunities: FDDI will offer platforms and opportunities for publication in Chinese academic journals and media.

6. Field trips: Visiting scholars will have opportunities for free field trips organized by FDDI.
