Nicolas Damin is Researcher at the Center for Argentina-China Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and professor in the National University of Lanus. He studied sociology and holds a PhD in Social Sciences from UBA. He was scholar (2010-2017) at the CEIL-CONICET (Center for Labor Studies-National Scientific and Technical Research Council).
His research topics are China-Latin America and production-labor studies. He is the author of two books and two collective books related to the industrial relations in Argentina and the China-Argentina cooperation in the mining sector. His current FDDI project is related to the “sociology of Development Studies: from the Atlantic to the Pacific, new strategies of Argentine governments and companies”.
He uses sociological tools to explain how companies and governments in Argentina are facing global changes in international commerce. Three decades ago, trade between Argentina and East Asia was very low, but in recent years had experimented sharply increase: today China is the second business partner of the southern country. This new scenario reshaped companies' internal structures, their logistics, infrastructure, and links with unions and local communities. We will use evidence produced in the agricultural, mining, energy, tourism, educational sector to explore this process.
