Hui Faye Xiao is Professor and Chairperson (2019-24) of the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Kansas. She has published two monographs Morning Sun in the Tiny Times: Youth Economy, Crisis, and Reinvention in Twenty-First Century China (2020) and Family Revolution: Marital Strife in Contemporary Chinese Literature and Visual Culture (2014) and co-edited (with Dr. Ping Zhu) a volume Feminisms with Chinese Characteristics (2021). She has been awarded research grants and fellowships by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the National Humanities Center, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Philosophical Society, the Illinois Program for Research in the Humanities, and the Hall Center for the Humanities. Currently she is working on a third monograph tentatively titled The Hen Cackles in the Morning: Gendered Soundscape and Female Leadership in Modern Chinese Literature and Cinema.
