Have you ever used AI to overcome language barriers and connect with friends from other countries?
Have AI chatbots or social media recommendations changed the way you interact with others?
Or has AI opened up new opportunities for you to study, conduct research, and collaborate across borders?
As AI becomes part of everyday life,
what experiences do young people across the Global South share?
And what different challenges do they face across countries and cultures?
As part of the 2026 Global South Modernization Forum, the Center for Global AI Innovative Governance (CGAIG), together with the School of Journalism at Fudan University, is launching a youth case study and presentation event titled “The Global South in the Age of AI: Youth Perspectives on Development and the Future.”
We invite students from China and other Global South countries to share their experiences, explore real-world issues, and tell their own stories about life in the age of AI.
Form a team, share your perspective, and help bring young voices from the Global South to a wider audience!
01丨What Kind of Case Studies Are We Looking for?
This call for case studies focuses on three themes.
1. AI and Cross-Cultural Communication
2. AI and Youth Social Interactions
3. AI and Youth Participation in International Cooperation
Whether your idea comes from your own experience with AI or something you’ve observed in your community, we encourage you to start with a specific question and explore it in local contexts across the Global South. We encourage firsthand research through fieldwork, in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and direct observation.
