Abstract

In the 21st century, the Global South (GS) are gaining influence relative to the Global North (GN).However, the developmental imbalance issue in the Global South with Asia outperforming Latin America and Africa is glaring. We explore this issue by using a novel theoretical integration that combines world-systems theory-drawing on Giovanni Arrighi's analysis of systemic cycles and macro-regional transformations with Latin American structuralism, We emphasize endogenous industrialization and technological change, and historical institutionalism, which focuses on state-building and state capacities in shaping accumulation and transformation, which offers new insights and strategies within and beyond the Global South.
