On May 30, 2025, the Fudan Development Institute successfully held its anniversary event, focusing on the theme Artificial Intelligence and National Development. The event brought together nine experts and scholars from the Fudan Development Institute, its affiliated centers, and Incubation institution to engage in in-depth discussions on the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) across various fields and its profound impact on national development.
The event covered a wide range of topics: Tianjiao JIANG analyzed the motivations, foundations, and challenges of AI cooperation among BRICS countries; Xu YAO elaborated on the current status, advantages, and global spillover effects of China’s AI development; Nathan Sperber explored Europe’s challenges in pursuing AI development amidst U.S.-China tech rivalry; Shuo SHI, drawing on the “elite quality” theory, examined AI’s influence on the global quality of elites; Xiaoxin DU, using Shenzhen as a case study, highlighted the limitations of library-centered urban development in the AI era; Li LIU focused on inclusive AI development and its role in upgrading rural industries; Qin LI analyzed the application and challenges of AI in the field of biodiversity; Weiqi TANG discussed the relationship between AI and sustainable development; and Fengbin HU examined technological nationalism in the U.S.-China tech war from the perspective of media narratives.
In his concluding remarks, Yi SHEN affirmed the academic value of the symposium and encouraged scholars to further refine their research logic, enhance disciplinary and theoretical rigor, and deepen the strategic understanding of key issues. The event provided multi-dimensional insights into the role of AI in national development and offered valuable guidance for future research directions.
