Professor Yi SHEN pointed out in a Global Times article that as the world approaches the 80th anniversary of the WWII victory in 2025, the U.N.-centered multilateral system continues to serve as the foundation for global peace. However, the United States has first abandoned multilateralism and plunged into the Cold War. After the Cold War, it used “rules” as a pretext to pursue hegemony, and expanded NATO eastward, triggering reflections on de-globalization. Today, we must learn from history and resolutely uphold the central role of the United Nations and the authority of international law. We must adhere to genuine multilateralism, oppose Cold War mentality and decoupling, and advocate extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefit to achieve common security and prosperity. All nations must resolutely uphold the international system and fundamental principles established by the outcomes of WWII victory. Firstly, we must steadfastly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core and the international order based on international law. Secondly, we must adhere to genuine multilateralism, emphasizing that international affairs should be decided by all through discussion, not dictated by one or a few countries. Lastly, we must firmly oppose any signs of a new Cold War or bloc confrontation.
