Academician Li JIN noted that AI-driven scientific research represents an integration and transcendence of the four paradigms of experimentation, theory, computation and data, constituting a ‘new scientific paradigm’. The systemic transformation it catalyses manifests in: a shift from ‘microscope’ to “telescope” for holistic exploration; a transition from ‘understanding nature’ to ‘designing nature’, as humanity evolves into ‘architects of life’; from ‘reading practice’ to ‘iteration by hours’, achieving autonomous closed-loop systems; the reconstruction of innovation ecosystems, where universities should become ecological hubs; and from closed to open systems, breaking disciplinary barriers to build cross-domain collaboration platforms. Fudan University is establishing an integrated innovation cultivation system encompassing ‘education-research-practice’, proactively adapting to the demands of the era. It calls upon global universities to work together to build innovation ecosystems and nurturing ‘stem cell talents’.
