As the era of artificial intelligence unfolds, an important question emerges: how can China’s ethical traditions offer meaningful and robust guidance for the governance of AI? On November 5, 2025, scholars gathered at Guanghua Tower of Fudan University for the interdisciplinary symposium titled “AI Governance and Chinese Ethical Wisdom.” The event formed part of the 19th (2025) “Academic Activities Month” hosted by the Shanghai Federation of Social Science Associations. It was organized by the Shanghai Society of Ethics and co-organized by the Ministry of Education’s National Center for Teaching Innovation in “Ideological, Moral, and Legal Education” (Fudan University) together with the Institute of Applied Ethics at East China Normal University. Nearly thirty experts from Fudan University, East China Normal University, Shanghai University, and other institutions took part in the symposium. Focusing on the theme of “AI Governance and Chinese Ethical Wisdom,” participants engaged in wide-ranging discussions drawing on perspectives from Marxist theory, philosophy of science and technology, ethics, law, political science, history, and related fields.
