Isabela Garbin Joins FDDI as Visiting Scholar

Isabela Garbin holds a Ph.D. in International Relations from the Institute of International Relations at the University of São Paulo (USP). She completed two postdoctoral research projects: the first at the Harvard Kennedy School (2017–2019), and the most recent at the Faculty of Law of the State University of Rio de Janeiro – UERJ (2021–2023).


She is a Professor of International Relations at the Federal University of Uberlandia-MinasGerais (UFU), where she teaches at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Her academic and professional background bridge the fields of international law, constitutional law, and judicial studies, with a particular focus on the role of courts in contemporary global governance.


Her research interests include International Politics, International Courts and Tribunals, Supreme Courts, constitutional law, the rule of law and judicial diplomacy. 


She is the author of STF no Mundo: perspectivas e desafios para uma agenda internacional (2025), a book that examines the international engagement and judicial diplomacy of Brazil’s Federal Supreme Court. In addition to her academic activities, she also serves as an Advisor at the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court and as a law clerk in the Chambers of Justice Luís Roberto Barroso.


Dr. Isabela Garbin will be a visiting scholar at Fudan Development Institute from December 12, 2025 to January 3, 2026.
