The book adopts the theory of national (urban) development dynamics to examine the development of the civic honor system of Shanghai since the Reform and Opening-up from four dimensions: historical change, institutional change, practical change, and comparative perspective. It explores the political symbolism, political identity construction, spiritual civilization construction, and governance modernization connotations behind the civic honor system. The book analyzes the value logic, institutional logic, and technological logic of the changes in Shanghai’s civic honor system. It discusses the constraints on the development of Shanghai’s civic honor system from four aspects: structure, organization, procedure, and orientation. Furthermore, it explores shaping a civic honor system consistent with national (urban) development dynamics from the perspectives of national honor system positioning, Shanghai’s urban spirit, urban positioning, and innovative governance, aiming to comprehensively promote the institutionalization of Shanghai’s civic honor system.
