OnSeptemer 27, a Workshop on Family Studies and Methods from a Modern EthnographicsView was held in Rm. 919, Liberal Arts Building, Fudan University. Theworkshop, co-organized by Contemporary China Social Life Data and ResearchCenter and the Family Development & Research Center (under planning), providesa platform for discussions on a theme of “the Utilization of Visual Materials inFamily Studies”.
Duringthe first day, Tamar Kremer-Sadlik, a researcher from UCLA recollected thesetting up and working frames of the Center on the Everyday Lives Families(CELF), UCLA, then he shared their experience in utilizing videos and pictures toconduct research on three subjects, namely, Household Chores & Pressure,Moments of Family Cohesion and Intercultural Comparison.
Onthe other day, Prof. Yan Yunxian, also from CELF, UCLA, delivered a report titled“New Challenges and the Individualization of Family Studies”. He remarked that familiesare no longer formed as a means to live collectively, rather, they are needed tosatisfy individuals` persuasion of happiness, given individuals have become thecore of social life.
ShenYifei, associate professor of the Family Development & Research Center,Fudan University presided over the two-day workshop and guided profound discussionsamong the attendees. The two universities also exchanged their prospects forfuture co-operation.
