US-China relations are among themost important strategic relations in the world today. On one hand, China hasgrown so fast in the past few decades that it is fast catching up with theworld’s most powerful country the United States. On the other, the UnitedStates is readjusting its strategic stance toward China, having felt thepressure from across the Pacific. China and the U.S. are both re-examining andreevaluating each other at present. Nevertheless, the two countries are makingefforts to increase mutual understanding and to pursue complementary interests,even though their interests diverge and agreements incomplete on many issues.We must recognize the existence of common interests between our two nations, inspite of the many obstacles to the relationship.

Sponsored by the Ample HarvestCapital, FDDI’s research program on “the Program to Promote China-USFriendship, Trust and Cooperation” aims to build a comprehensive andmulti-dimensional platform for conducting research into the politics, societyand culture of the United States and China. The program will take advantage ofthe superior qualities of the relevant disciplines, scholars, academicresources and the strength of policy think-tank at Fudan University. It willhelp promote the exchange and dialogue among the academic researchers, businessleaders and policy experts from the U.S. and China, especially the youngleaders from the two countries.

 Annual call for proposals will be issued underthe “Program to Promote China-US Friendship, Trust and Cooperation”. Scholarsfrom all over the world are encouraged to submit research proposals inaccordance with the relevant criteria for the year.

 

Following are the criteria forthe 2016 call for proposals:

 

I. Eligibility: Researchers or researchunits that are based in universities, social science academies, etc. Theapplication for funding can be from individual or institutions.

 

II. Themes and Funding Cycles: For 2016 or2016-2017, the following themes have been identified for research:

1. Vital Political Text Analysis on China-USRelationship1990-2010 (To becompleted in two years, 2016-2017)

2. U.S. presidentialelection in 2016 and its impact on U.S.-China relations (2016)

3. Tracking U.S.-Chinacooperation on Internet security (2016)

 

In principle, only one awardwill be made for each research theme.

 

Research must be completedby December 2016 for the one-year project, and by December 2017 for thecross-year 2016-2017 research project.

 

Recipients of the award arerequired to submit a research report or academic paper (15,000 - 20,000 words)by the end of the research project.

 

Cross-year projects (2016-2017)will be awarded ¥60,000, to be paid out in two installments, while the one-yearresearch project (2016) will be awarded a one-time ¥50,000.

 

III. Applicationprocess

 

1.      Applicant should log on FDDI webpage (http://fddi.fudan.edu.cn), download the “Applicationfor the 2016 FDDI research program on the Program to Promote Sino-US Friendship,Trust and Cooperation” and other relevant materials.

 

2.      Applicant may send an electronic copy of the proposal via email to fdifudan@fudan.edu.cn with written signature.

 

3.      Application Deadline:December 25, 2015

 

4.      Award announcement date: Anacademic committee affiliated with the FDDI Program Office for “the Programto Promote China-US Friendship, Trust and Cooperation” will review all theproposals and announce the finalists by January 9, 2016.
