Appointment Ceremony of FDDI International Advisor & Visiting Professor was held

The Appointment Ceremony for FDDI international advisors of International Advisory Board and visiting professors was held in Fudan University on the evening of May 28th, the first day of Shanghai Forum 2016. Dagfinn Høybråten, the Nordic Council secretary general and former chairman of the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunizations (GAVI), Enrico Letta, former Italian Prime Minister and incumbent dean of the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) at Sciences Po in Paris were appointed as international advisors of International Advisory Board in Fudan Development Institute. Dr. Carl Amrhein, Deputy Minister of Alberta Health in Canada, was appointed as visiting professor in Fudan Development Institute.

 

 

 

 

 

The ceremony was hosted by Dr. Zhang Yi, deputy director of Fudan Development Institute and Fudan Research Department for Liberal Arts. Professor Liu Chenggong (Vice President of Fudan University and Vice Dean of Fudan Development Institute), Professor Chen Zhimin (Dean of School of International Relations and Public Affairs at Fudan University), and Professor Zhu Chouwen (Director of Foreign Affairs Office at Fudan University) introduced the appointed guests respectively. President of Fudan University and Fudan Development Institute Xu Ningsheng awarded certificates to the guests. The ceremony was witnessed by directors of other departments in Fudan University and guests who participated in Shanghai Forum 2016.

 

 

 

In the welcome speech, President Xu Ningsheng highlighted the openness of the ceremony, which he though was in accord with tradition of building strong connection with international community. “Thank you all for being here. You have made great contributions to maintaining peace and prosperity of the world, which is also the mission of Fudan University. From now on, I wish we could have more interactions in academic research, making joint efforts for a better future. ”

 

 

Dagfinn Høybråten, the Nordic Council secretary general and former chairman of the Global Alliance for Vaccine and Immunizations (GAVI), has been a Minister in both of Prime Minister Kjell Magne and Bondeviks Governments from 1997-2000 and 2001-2005. Mr. Høybråten has been a member of the Norwegian parliament from 2005 to 2013 and a member of the Standing Committee for Foreign Affairs from 2006 to 2013. In the year 2007, Mr. Høybråten was President for the Nordic Council. From 2011 to 2013 Mr. Høybråten was a Vice-President for the Norwegian Parliament. From 2004 to 2011 he was elected leader of the Christian Democratic Party of Norway. He was served as Director General of the National Social Security Administration. With a track record as a proactive reformer in the Norwegian public and political administration, Mr. Høybråten is now engaging himself in a reform and development process on a Nordic scale.

 

 

Enrico Letta, dean of the Paris School of International Affairs (PSIA) at Sciences Po in Paris, was also the former Italian Prime Minister. He graduated in International Law at the University of Pisa and obtained a PhD in European Union Law at the School for Advanced Studies“Sant’Anna” of Pisa. He is the author of many books on international and economic affairs. From 1998 to 2001, he served as Minister for EU Affairs, as Minister for Industry, Commerce and Crafts, and as Minister for Foreign Trade; Between 2001 and 2015 he was Member of the Italian Parliament, excluding between 2004 and 2006 when he was Member of the European Parliament. He also served as assistant Secretary of State from 2006 to 2008 and deputy Secretary of the Democratic Party (PD) from 2009 to 2013. He was the Prime Minister of Italy from April 2013 to February 2014, and from 1993 to May 2013 he managed an independent think tank, Arel. He is also vice chairman of the Italian Aspen Institute, chairman of Italy - Spanish Dialogue Forum and member of the Trilateral Commission. In a word, his whole career and thought have been shaped by a strong commitment to Europe.

 

 

Dr. Carl Amrhein, Deputy Minister of Alberta Health in Canada, held Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography from Pennsylvania State University and a Ph.D. in Geography from State University of New York at Buffalo. Dr. Amrhein has been the Vice-President (Academic) at the University of Alberta for 13 years. In 2015, he was invited by the Alberta government to formulate health system reform. In addition, he was appointed as dean of graduate school in University of Toronto. Dr. Amrhein owns great reputations in Canadian and Chinese universities, and is a frequent visitor of Shanghai Forum.
