Self-Introduction
Nikolaj K. Andersen is a PhD Fellow at Aarhus University’s Department of Political Science, Denmark and a visiting scholar at the Fudan Development Institute from September to November 2018. He researches China’s foreign policy, namely the role and consequences of Chinese investments in infrastructure abroad (such as the Belt and Road Initiative) on the relationships between China and its neighbors. He explores how investments influence trade, debt and energy supply and what this means for the overall fungibility of China’s economic strength in foreign policy. Through case studies of China’s bilateral relations with Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar and other countries, the research examines the implications of China’s economic rise for its role in the emerging regional order. Nikolaj K. Andersen holds an MA in International Studies and a BA in History of Ideas both from Aarhus University.
