Antonio Postigo is a Senior Fellow at the Barcelona Institute for International Studies (IBEI) and a Research Fellow at the United Nations University–Institute on Comparative Regional Integration Studies (Belgium). He holds a PhD in International Development from the London School of Economics (LSE, UK), as well as Master’s degrees in Development Management (LSE) and International Affairs (Washington University, USA). He has worked as a Program Officer at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP) and has consulted for UN-ESCAP, the World Bank, and several think tanks.
His main research focus is the international political economy of regional integration and cooperation through Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) and Digital Economy Agreements (DEAs), particular between developed and developing countries and with a regional focus on East and Southeast Asia. His academic work has been published in leading journals in international political economy, development, and international relations (e.g., Review of International Political Economy, International Studies Quarterly, The World Economy, Urban Studies, Journal of Asian Public Policy). He has also authored policy outputs on regional integration and cooperation across a wide range of development topics for UN-ESCAP, the World Bank, and various think tanks.
During his stay at FDDI, he will explore governance frameworks for artificial intelligence that sustain innovation and maximize benefits while also mitigating risks and ensuring inclusive development outcomes, with a focus on the opportunities and limitations of FTAs and DEAs as tools for its international governance.
Antonio Postigo will be a visiting scholar at Fudan Development Institute from April 15, 2026 to May 27, 2026.
