Amid reports of U.S. president-elect Donald Trump planning to nominate Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, Chinese experts believe such a move could make Washington’s China policy more confrontational, straining relations further.

“It may lead to the U.S. challenging China’s national interests more often, and even breach our limit on many important issues,” Wu Xinbo, director of the Center for American Studies and vice dean of Fudan Development Institute at Fudan University, told Caixin.
