Lanjun Xu

Xu Lanjun is Associate Professor of Chinese Studies at the National University of Singapore.  She received her B.A. and M.A. from Peking University, and Ph.D. from Princeton University. Her research interests include modern Chinese literature and film, the cultural history of Chinese children and youth, and China-Southeast Asia cultural connections in the post-war period. She is currently working on a book project examining the transregional cultural connections between China and post-war Singapore and Malaya (1940s-1960s), with a focus on literature, film, and print cultures. And she is also the PI of the Singapore MOE Tier-2 project Chinese Popular Cultures in Post-war Singapore and Malaya (www.chinesepopularcultures.sg). Her publications include Chinese Children and War: Education, Nation, and Popular Culture (Peking University Press, 2015) and Chineseness and the Cold War: Contested Cultures and Diaspora in Southeast Asia and Hong Kong (co-edited with Jeremy Taylor, Routledge, 2021).
