Fudan Development Institute (FDDI)[1] welcomes international scholars to apply for the “FDDI Visiting Scholar Program” to conduct independent research at the Institute and engage in academic exchanges and collaborations with FDDI and Fudan University scholars.
1. Eligibility
a) Applicants are required to hold foreign nationality, and use English as their primary working language.
b) Applicants should be faculty members or researchers at overseas universities or research institutions and, in principle, hold the academic rank of Associate Professor or above (or an equivalent academic position).
c) Professionals and management personnel working in government agencies, international organizations, NGOs, well-established enterprises, leading think tanks, or media organizations may also apply, provided that they hold qualifications equivalent to the senior level or above, and demonstrate strong capabilities in academic communication and policy research.
d) Applicants should have an ongoing research project in their field of expertise. Preferred research areas include, but are not limited to:
- State Development Dynamics[2];
- Global governance and international order;
- Technological innovation and the digital future;
- Sustainable development and green transition;
- Economics, finance and globalization;
- Social development and public health;
- Global South and regional development.
e) Each scholar may receive funding under this program only once. Repeat applications from previously funded scholars will not be accepted.
2. Visiting Period
Applicants should be able to visit China during the Spring 2027 semester (February 22, 2027 – June 25, 2027), for a duration of 30 to 90 days.
3. Responsibilities
Visiting scholars are expected to:
a) Work in the research office for at least three working days per week.
b) Actively participate in seminars and activities organized by FDDI, and deliver at least one lecture on their research.
c) Submit one working paper upon completion of the visit (which is expected to be formally published within two years).
d) Publish one commentary in mainstream media at home or abroad.
e) Contribute at least one review to FDDI’s internal publications.
* Visiting scholars must ensure that all submitted articles do not involve any copyright disputes.
4. Funding and Support
FDDI will provide the following support for selected visiting scholars:
a) Living subsidy: A daily stipend based on the scholar’s professional rank:
Associate Professor: 800 RMB/day (pre-tax)
Full Professor: 1,000 RMB/day (pre-tax)
b) Travel expenses: Reimbursement for international round-trip economy-class airfare, subject to the following limits:

c) Office space: Free office space on campus (except during winter and summer vacations).
d) Research and exchange: FDDI will provide opportunities for field visits and support scholars in participating in academic lectures and public activities across Fudan University.
