The objective of this study is to evaluate the efficiency of global airlines by integrating innovation capital into a two-stage dynamic network DEA (data envelopment analysis) framework. In order to address these concerns, we have developed a dynamic network DEA model that takes into account the interconnectedness between various internal processes of airlines and the carry-over effects that occur between different time periods. By incorporating the dynamic impact of shared carry-over items, we are able to accurately calculate efficiency scores for both the production subprocess and the service subprocess, which are the two main components of the airline operation system. Despite considerable interest in analyzing performance, to the best of our knowledge, this is the earliest study to incorporate innovation capital in airline efficiency measurement. The proposed approach has the potential to assist airline managers, regulators, and policymakers in reliably measuring performance and enhancing the efficiency and sustainability of airlines.
