Austin Strange is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Government at Harvard University researching Chinese foreign policy and international political economy. His current research examines how domestic political authority concerns shape foreign economic policies in historical and contemporary China. Through archival research in Beijing in Taipei, his work sheds new light on the domestic sources of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing   (1644-1911) international trade and diplomacy. With excellent colleagues, Austin also tracks contemporary China's economic activities abroad. Among other projects, he is writing a book (with Axel Dreher, Andreas Fuchs, Brad Parks, and Mike Tierney) on China's overseas development program. More information on his research and background is available at austinstrange.org.
