摘 要 Host
This talk will discuss learning from a China/US/global network that began in 2007-2008 to compare how countries are developing governance approaches to common 21st century challenges.
At Cold War’s end some western “public intellectuals” predicted the convergence of country systems. By the early 21st century there was a global language of “governance;” students and teachers in Beijing, Shanghai, Washington and New York shared the same English words, such as “governance,” “NGO,’ “policy,” “rule of law,” “Open information,” “PPPs,” “evidence based” governance.
In 2023 it is no longer evident that systems will converge. The late 20th century global world order is in time of stress and change. But, in addition to ancient problems of war and pandemic, the 21st century world is faced with climate change, demographic changes, and challenges and opportunities from new technologies.
While Country systems differ, how might comparative scholar/practitioner study of how countries are meeting the local impacts of common new governance challenges provide learning of benefit to many countries and, in doing so, serve as a bridge among countries in time of stress and change?
