摘要
Abstract
It is well recognised that the agricultural sector is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, particularly at the farm level. These impacts create significant challenges for agribusinesses in terms of supply continuity and commodity quality, requiring them to proactively adapt to changing conditions to remain competitive. Such actions are needed across the entire value chain to encourage coordinated activities that best manage the risks posed by climate variability and climate change. Although adaptation can occur in isolation at specific nodes of the chain, greater benefits can be realised if all chain partners understand how consumers may respond to and value adaptation strategies. Thus, value chain approaches to climate adaptation present opportunities for managing climate risk, particularly when a consumer-focused perspective is taken. Without this understanding of consumers, businesses may invest in climate adaptation with little knowledge of the potential returns, or which approaches are most likely to create a competitive advantage.
