Rosario SANTA GADEA

 

Dr. Rosario SANTA GADEA holds the degrees of Doctor and Master in International Economics from Université Paris Ouest Nanterre La Défense, France, and Bachelor´s degree in Economics from Universidad del Pacífico (UP), Peru. She has been Fellow of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs of Harvard University and Visiting Researcher at the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies. She is Former Director of the Center for China and Asia-Pacific Studies at UP in Lima, Peru. With her leadership, the Center has done pioneering work as Peru’s only institution specialized in the study of China and one of just few in Latin America (LA). At present, she is independent researcher and advisor specialized on these topics. From September 1st to November 30th, 2024, she is Fellow of Fudan Development Institute, Fudan University.

 

During her extensive carrier, she has served as Advisor to Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense, and Economics as well as to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Peru. She had the role of National Coordinator for Peru at the Initiative for Integration of the Regional Infrastructure of South America and was International Consultant of the Inter-American Development Bank in this topic. She occupied permanent positions at the Institute for European-Latin American Relations, in Madrid, and the General Secretariat of the Andean Community, in Lima. She was also Executive Secretary of the Peruvian Center for International Studies, among other positions.

 

Her research has been published in China, Europe, LA and the US. Her more recent book is: Zhang, Y. & Santa Gadea, R. (Eds.). Finding a way to avoid the middle-income trap: The cases of China and Peru (2021-English. Beijing: CSSP and 2023-Spanish. Lima: UP). At present, some topics of interest for her research are: 1) Industrial transformation of China and the role of Special Economic Zones: What can we learn? 2) Towards a “transpacific economic corridor” under the Belt and Road Initiative: The Chinese investment in the port of Chancay in Peru. 3) Estimating the presence of Chinese firms in LA economy: The case of Peru. 4) Renewing physical integration Peru-Brazil in view of their insertion in Asia-Pacific.
