China is increasing its presence in Africa and Latin America, through the roll-out of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). However, the means and actors involved are changing.

In this seminar we invite Xiangming Chen, a renowned scholar on BRI-related issues, to share his insights and discuss and compare those changes and the implications for sustainable transformations in the two regions. Xiangming is a guest researcher at the Research Council of Norway (RCN) funded project “Moving up the value chain: Intermediation in industrial upgrading in the Pearl River Delta” and Fudan European Centre for China Studies (FECCS), Department of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages, UiO.


Organizers

The seminar is co-organized by University of Oslo and the Fudan-European Centre for China Studies. It is a part of a series of seminars organized by MultiChina, an ongoing research project funded by the Research Council of Norway at the Centre for Development and the Environment (SUM), University of Oslo.

Lecture by Xiangming Chen, Professor and the Director of Urban Studies, Trinity College (USA), and Guest Professor, Fudan University (China).

Discussion with Benedicte Bull and Dan Banik, Professors of the Centre for Development and the Environment, University of Oslo.

Moderator: Chunrong Liu, managing director of the Fudan-European Centre for China Studies.

Please note that the event will be recorded. A light breakfast will be served from 08:30, and the seminar will take place from 09:00 to 10:30.
