Dr Catherine Owen,British Academy Postdoctoral Fellow
Dr Catherine Owen is Research Fellow at the University of Exeter, UK. For the past four years she has been involved with the project, Rising Powers and Conflict Management in Central Asia, which compares Russian, Chinese and Western approaches to conflict in the Central Asian region. Between 2015 and 2017, she also spent three semesters teaching Central Asian Studies in the Department of History and Civilization at Shaanxi Normal University, Xi’an. Her current research interests include Russian and Chinese foreign policy in Central Asia from comparative perspective, and Central Asian responses to Russian and Chinese power, which she explores from a qualitative, ethnographic perspective. Dr Owen has published her research in leading journals in the US, UK and in China, and is fluent in French, German and Russian, and speaks conversational Chinese.
